Using Remote Sensing to Study Natural Resources and Natural Hazards
LANDSLIDE HYDROLOGY AND MACHINE LEARNING
April 12, 2025
Modern landslide modeling is a time- and resource-intensive task, that hinders it's applicability to landslide hazard warning systems. A novel approach using machine learning can reduce the time it takes to assess landslide risk to minutes with as little as six months of data.
MEASURING SNOW DEPTH VARIABILITY IN UNREGULATED TERRAIN
April 12, 2025
The amount of snow in mountainous terrain can sometimes be vital to water management in other parts of the area, as that snow melts and can add to water levels in reservoirs, or it can be less than expected and not raise the water levels enough. The goal of this project is to attempt to extract snow depth from elevation data from NASA's ICESat-2 satellite.
